This was one of those WOW! days. The excursion got off to a bumpy start -- literally -- when we got into horse-drawn carts
for a ride to a teak monastery and then onward toward Amarapura. The roads are so potholed that riding in the tiny cart was bone-jarring and sometimes alarming, but it was a chance to see the countryside up close.
The carvings at the monastery were intricate and interesting and the massive teak posts supporting it are impressive in themselves. A further cart ride brought us to the edge of the river. We crossed in a seemingly rickety ferry and boarded a lovely air-conditioned bus. Near the U-Bein Bridge, we clambered into sampans and were rowed out to watch the sunset.

We were visited by AMApura crew delivering glasses of Prosecco to enjoy. It was all magical. Topping off the trip was a visit to a silk store. Beautiful stuff. After dinner, the staff & crew showed off their amazing musical talents. Really entertaining.
